PRINCEOPOLY: beyond training

New Public Game Date Set

29th June 2010

What is PRINCEOPOLY?

·         A business game that trains project teams to use project management skills and processes through practice, practice and more practice

·         A half-day, one-day or two-day project simulation facilitated by experienced practitioners

·         An effective alternative to traditional class-room training

Why PRINCEOPOLY?

·         Learn by doing

·         Greater level of recall

·         More likely to change behaviour

·         Self-validating: attendees prove ‘best practice’ to themselves

·         Safe environment for trial and error

·         Closes gap between classroom theory and workplace practice

·         Can be integrated into development programmes

·         Can be customised to client’s own methodology

·         A great way for existing practitioners to learn PRINCE2® 2009 and polish their soft-skills at the same time

·         Developed by PRINCE2 2009 Lead Author

·         It’s fun!

Purpose

To simulate a full project lifecycle  so that participants can learn and practice a range of project management skills

Objectives

By the end of the game participants will have practiced:

·         Essential project management skills

·         Leadership

·         Communication

·         Collaboration

·         Time Management

·         Problem solving

·         Applying a structured project management method

·         PRINCE2 processes

·         PRINCE2 components

Game Background

Having expanded to their limits the cities of Centropolis and Portopolis are overcrowded.  The Government has decided that the country needs a new city in order to address the changing demographics of the nation.

Land from the royal estate will be used to build a new city and has been cleared in preparation for development.  The new city will be called PRINCEOPOLIS.

After intense competition, your company won the contract to build PRINCEOPOLIS.  The Government expects a 21st century city built to exacting standards and a showpiece of modern social engineering.

Making it real

·         The game includes 50+ issues and risks based on actual project experience

·         Most issues and risks are triggered by the roll of a dice

·         … but some teams create self-inflicted ones!!

It works with any method

·         The standard game is based on PRINCE2

·         PRINCEOPOLY can also be delivered using an organisation’s in-house method

·         The 2-day version can accommodate targeted learning objectives, e.g.

·         Earned Value Management

·         Product Based Planning

·         Business Case Development

·         Customer/Supplier Management

·         Stakeholder Engagement

Who should play?

·         Project Sponsors

·         Trainee Project Managers

·         Experienced Project Managers

·         Project Support

·         Quality Assurance

·         Project Teams (excellent for a project kick-off!)

Price

The game can be delivered as a half day, one-day or a two-day event costing £3000, £4000 and £6000 respectively (excluding VAT). Training programmes can be tailored to be based on company specific methods and to taret specific learning objectives.
