Outperform now provide a suit of business games covering projects (PRINCEOPOLY), programmes (the King’s Island) and risk (casino wars). They provide an effective alternative to traditional classroom training through the concept of ‘learning by doing’.
“Brilliant, all training should be done this way”
“I never thought training could be so fun and effective at the same time”
PRINCEOPOLY, Casino wars and King’s Island are one day events that show people how to apply the methods in practice by taking participants through a complete project/programme lifecycle. The games are designed in 45 minute turns (i.e. stages) with 15 minute lessons learned where bit by bit each aspect of the method is introduced. The principles become self validating because attendees experience for themselves the difference between the chaos of the early turns and the smooth running of the final turn. The ‘experience’ part is the crucial element as it addresses the 40% of adults who learn better through experience rather than through listening (something called kinaesthetic!). The level of recall from a one day event is greater than from a traditional 5 day course (as most people mainly recall how difficult the exam was).
A unique feature of the games is that as the participants exercise each aspect of the methods it is possible to observe how they perform. At the end of event the game leader provides feedback to the participants on their performance profile and for onsite events provides the company with a summary report showing the team’s profile. This is particularly useful if the profile shows a cluster of development needs.
The games are useful to both ‘newbies’ and practitioners alike as it is about ‘practice’ rather than theory. They are also highly effective for team building and are therefore useful as part of a project/programme kick-off particularly for environments where a number of organisations are working together for the first time.
We’re running some open events to formally launch them as Outperform services:
- PRINCEOPOLY – 26th February
- Casino Wars (M_o_R) – 27th February
- The King’s Island (MSP) – 19th March
