The Association for Project Management (APM) is a professional body which aims to foster the efficiency of project management and the professional and ethical standards of its members. See www.apm.org.uk for more details.

Outperform is a corporate member of the APM and is bound by its code.  Therefore all employees and associates are also bound by its code.

 

Personal responsibilities

A member of the Association shall:

·         Accept responsibility for his/her actions.

·         Act honestly and in such a manner to ensure that his/her client is not misled.

·         Ensure that his/her professional skills are kept up to date by continuing personal professional development and education.

·         Not give not accept any gifts, payment or inducement of more than nominal value to or from people with a business relationship with employers or clients.

·         Declare matters which could be construed as a conflict of interest.

·         Respect the confidentiality of his/her clients’ information

·         Act in the best interest of his or her clients in all business and professional matters.

·         Not replace another Project Manager without a clear written instruction from his/her client and prior notification to the other Project Manager.

·         Be realistic in reporting and forecasting project progress, quality, cost and time.

 

Professional responsibilities

 

A member of the Association shall:

·         Only accept responsibility for and undertake projects for which he/she believes himself/herself to be competent.

·         Not act in a manner that would injure the professional reputation, prospects or business or others and be ethical in all methods of seeking to secure and develop business.

·         Encourage and assist the professional development of staff and colleagues.

·         Before undertaking an assignment, ensure the terms of engagement, including the scope of the service, limits of responsibilities and liabilities, terms of remuneration and provision of termination are agreed and understood by both parties.

·         Ensure that all delegated tasks are satisfactorily monitored and controlled.

·         Take all possible steps to anticipate and prevent contractual disputes and, when called upon to resolve any such disputes equitably.

·         Not subcontract any work without prior consent of his/her client.

·         Endeavour to ensure that the resources are available when required and are properly and efficiently used.

·         In appropriate circumstances provide and maintain adequate professional indemnity, employers and third party liability insurances.

·         Accept that in the event of a complaint regarding professional activities, against any member, this will be investigated by a panel appointed by the Council to establish if there is a case to answer.  If so the findings of the panel will be presented to the Council for its decision and action.

·         Accept that any member found to be in breach of this code may be disciplined by the Council by means of reprimand or termination of membership.
